Thousands of people connected through music with the OnePlus Phone Piano
The power of music really can bring people together, as demonstrated by the extraordinary OnePlus Phone Piano, which drew thousands of people across Europe to experience its melody and connection-making magic.
Having generated huge buzz ahead of its unveiling, the OnePlus Phone Piano embarked on a mission to connect and inspire people through music. Studies show that when people listen to music together it can bring about social closeness through the release of feel-good endorphins in the brain.
People flocked to see the astonishing instrument crafted using 17 OnePlus 7T Pro handsets arranged in a line to form a seamless and smooth keyboard. This has only been made possible due to the OnePlus 7T Pro’s notchless and class-leading 90 Hz Fluid Display, as well as its superior performance, delivering a truly realistic piano experience.
So smooth and responsive is the 90 Hz screen technology that it provides instant feedback when playing, making it almost indistinguishable from the real thing. Members of the public and the OnePlus Community even made perfect glissandos – fast slides across keys – having waited in line to play the piano.
The instrument was precision crafted using computer-controlled tools and houses two on-board computers to receive input signals and accurately synthesise musical notes. A special graphical user interface displays a smooth visual representation of the key being held.
To bring the music to life, gifted pianist and YouTube sensation Karim Kamar worked his magic on a special playlist, which included songs requested online. London-based Karim is a contemporary classical pianist and composer who has performed at major venues including The Royal Albert Hall, The Jazz Café, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and The Forge.

• 1,200: The number of notes Karim played per minute
Kate Parkyn, Head of EU Strategy & UK Marketing at OnePlus, comments: “Wherever the OnePlus Phone Piano has gone, the outpouring of interest has been phenomenal. It just goes to show music is a universal language and has proven so powerful in helping us bring people together.”
Michael, a OnePlus Community member, said: “I never would have thought you could turn smartphones into a piano. But, knowing OnePlus, it’s exactly the kind of thing they would do – and all in the name of connecting people.”
The OnePlus Phone Piano visited London, Paris, Helsinki and Bavaria, Germany in November 2019.
